Don't forget that if you're travelling to the USA it's vital to ensure that the luggage that you're checking into the hold is fitted with TSA locks.
The US TSA inspect all luggage arriving into the country. A TSA lock can be opened by them using a special key that only the TSA authorities have, so that your bags can be inspected. If you don't have a TSA lock then they will cut or break your lock to gain access, and the first that you will know is when you have a nasty surprise on collecting your case from the conveyor!
If you case has a fixed TSA lock you will notice a small keyhole into which the special key fits. We are frequently asked by customers why they do not have a key for this. Only the TSA authorities have or need this key.
